Success Story #3:
Communication Capabilities
Executive Coaching Client: Middle Manager at a large Midwestern hospital
Coaching Objective: Executive Coaching participant desired to improve communication capabilities in order to enhance performance, accomplish objectives, and position himself for additional responsibilities.
Coaching Means: The MPG Performance Group coach charged the coachee with analyzing and evaluating a number of his communication interactions using criteria that defines communication success. Through a process of self-discovery, the coachee became aware that his current mode of communication (telling, being directive, and using position power) was not only ineffective, but causing less than optimal working relationships. The coach and coachee explored different and more productive means of communication which the coachee was then challenged to apply.
Coaching Result: Through the practice of new communication strategies, the coachee realized more productive and engaged interactions with fellow employees and members of the hospital’s management team. The coachee was able to be more productive, experience less relationship tension, and build the necessary bridges to accomplish organizational goals.
“I now ask myself 'what's in it for them..."
"My Monarch coach helped me realize that when I’m delivering a message to an audience, it needs to be more about them than it is about me. I now always ask myself, ‘what’s in it for them’ when crafting a message to be delivered to my co-workers."
